Matches version strings beginning with a literal 'v', optionally followed by a major and minor number (each with a trailing dot), and ending in either a numeric patch version or a wildcard asterisk. Valid inputs include v1, v2.3, v1.2.3, v1.*, and v2.3.*. Useful for validating Git tags, npm dependency version ranges, or semver-style patterns with wildcards.
