Matches lines beginning with the literal word 'master', optionally followed by any run of hyphens/lowercase letters plus one extra character. The multiline flag makes ^ anchor at the start of each line, so it works well scanning logs or config files for entries like 'master-node' or 'master.example.com'. Note the dot is unescaped, matching any character rather than a literal period.
