Matches semantic versioning (SemVer) strings per the official spec: major.minor.patch with numeric identifiers and no leading zeros, e.g. 1.2.3. Optionally captures a hyphen-prefixed prerelease label (e.g. -alpha.1, -rc.2) and a plus-prefixed build metadata tag (e.g. +build.123). Commonly used to validate npm-style package versions, parse release tags, or filter version strings in logs, changelogs, and dependency files.
