Test, validate and match regular expressions
Matches US/North American phone numbers with an optional leading country code '1', an optional parenthesized area code, and flexible dash or space separators (e.g., '1 555-555-5555' or '1(555) 555-5555'). The [^\(] class requires a non-parenthesis character before the area code, so bare '(555)...' forms won't match unless preceded by another character. Useful for extracting loosely formatted phone numbers from text using multiline global search.
