This regex validates service names by enforcing that they start and end with a lowercase letter, while allowing lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens in the middle (minimum 3 characters). It's commonly used in Terraform configurations to enforce DNS-compatible naming conventions for cloud resources, rejecting names that begin or end with hyphens or digits. The multiline flag enables validation of multiple names line by line.
