Build, test, and debug regular expressions
Matches a pipe (|) character only when it lies outside of double-quoted sections, by using a lookahead that asserts an even number of quotes remain between the pipe and the end of the string. This is the classic technique for splitting pipe-delimited (CSV-like) data where quoted fields may contain the delimiter. Commonly used with a split function (with the g flag) to tokenize rows into fields while respecting quotes as escape wrappers.
