Build, test, and debug regular expressions
This pattern matches number sequences resembling phone numbers: three digits, followed by a separator (hyphen or any character), an optional space, three more digits, a dot or hyphen, and finally three or four digits. It captures each group separately, making it useful for extracting phone number components. It handles common formats like 123-456-789, 123.456.7890, or 123- 456.789. Note that the '.' in the alternation matches any character, not just a period.
