Test, validate and match regular expressions
Matches two literal asterisks (), used to strip Markdown bold syntax so that bold text** becomes bold text. The empty lookahead (?=) is redundant since it always succeeds, making this equivalent to \*\* with the global flag ensuring every occurrence is matched. Typically used with String.replace() to remove bold formatting from Markdown strings, though it will match any ** pair regardless of context.
