This regex matches text enclosed in curly braces and captures the content inside them (group 1), excluding the braces themselves. The negated character class [^}]* matches any characters except a closing brace, so it even handles empty braces {}. Commonly used to extract template variables like {name} or {value} from strings, such as Python format placeholders or custom template syntax. The global flag ensures all occurrences are found throughout the input.
