Build, test, and debug regular expressions
This pattern uses two named capture groups to identify markup tag boundaries on a single line: 'opening' matches a `<` followed by a word character (the start of an opening tag like `<div`), while 'closing' matches an optional `<`, a slash, any word characters, and `>` (closing tags like `</div>` or self-closing `/>`). It's useful for tokenizing, validating, or syntax-highlighting HTML/XML markup. Note the opening group only captures the first two characters of a tag rather than the full tag name.
