Test, validate and match regular expressions
Matches network interface names with optional sub-interface notation, capturing three parts: the interface type/name (e.g., 'eth', 'GigabitEthernet'), the slot/port numbering with slash separators (e.g., '0', '0/1/2'), and an optional sub-interface number after a dot (e.g., '.100'). Commonly used in network automation to parse interface strings from device configurations, map sub-interfaces to their parent interfaces, or normalize interface names across vendors.
