Build, test, and debug regular expressions
This Python-compatible regular expression matches sequences containing an odd number of backslashes. It uses lookbehind and lookahead assertions to ensure the matched backslashes are bounded by non-backslash characters or the start/end of a line. It captures the isolated odd-length backslash sequence in the first capturing group. This is particularly useful for parsing escape sequences in programming languages or text formats where trailing backslashes act as escape characters.
