This regular expression matches any string that begins with an `http://` or `https://` scheme, capturing that prefix into the first capturing group. Following the protocol, it matches all subsequent characters on the same line because of the greedy dot-star (`.*`) operator. It is commonly used to extract complete web URLs or isolate the protocol portion from links within larger bodies of text.
