Regex Editor & Tester

This regex matches from the start of a line and captures a hostname or IP address into a named group 'host' by looking for non-whitespace characters that precede a literal ' - ' (space-hyphen-space). Commonly used for parsing web server access logs and system logs where the host identifier appears near the beginning of the entry.
